Intuitive Eating

Eat according to hunger and satiety, without restriction or guilt.

Definition

Intuitive eating is a non-restrictive approach that encourages reconnecting with physiological signals of hunger and satiety rather than external dietary rules.

How it works

Developed by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch (1995), intuitive eating is based on 10 principles: reject the diet mentality, honor hunger, make peace with food, challenge the food police, respect satiety, discover the satisfaction factor, honor emotions, respect the body, move with pleasure, honor health.

Role

Normalize the relationship with food, prevent eating disorders, improve body image.

Examples

  • Eat when hungry, stop when satisfied, do not feel guilty about deviations

Recommendations

Particularly indicated after years of restrictive diets or in cases of a disturbed relationship with food.

Key takeaway

Chronic diets disconnect from natural hunger signals — relearning them is the basis of sustainable eating.
