Global measurement of blood proteins.
The total proteins present in the blood plasma, including albumin and globulins. Their dosage evaluates overall nutritional status and hepatic function.
Serum total proteins comprise albumin (synthesized by the liver) and various globulins (immunoglobulins, transport proteins, etc.). Normal concentrations range from 60 to 80 g/L in adults. Decreased total proteins may indicate malnutrition, malabsorption, chronic liver or kidney disease. Increased levels are often associated with dehydration or certain hematological diseases.
Maintains oncotic pressure, transports nutrients, and participates in immune defense.
Include total protein dosage in any nutritional balance or when suspecting liver or kidney issues. Adequate protein intake (1.2 to 1.5 g/kg/day) is essential to maintain normal proteinemia.
Total proteins reflect overall nutritional status and global hepatic function.
